Ntjamrosie
Ntjamrosie’s mix van World, Pop, Soul en Jazz is in veel hokjes te plaatsen,voor het gemak creëert ze haar eigen hokje; ‘Bulu Soul’. Met haar roots in het zuidelijk Kameroen, waar ze opgroeide tussen kerkmuziek en traditionele Kameroenese storytelling en later als jong meisje via Maastricht in Rotterdam terecht kwam op de World Music Department van Rotterdams Conservatorium, waar ze Bossa Nova’s, Bolero’s, Jazz Standards en meer tot zich nam, is het ook niet vreemd dat Ntjamrosie muziek versmolten is met al deze invloeden. Op haar debuut album Atouba (vernoemd naar haar overleden grootmoeder Bernadette Atouba) komen al deze invloeden samen, omhuld met teksten in het Engels, Frans en Bulu (een Kameroenese dialect). Het geheel is geproduceerd door mede Rotterdammers en labelgenoten Nelson & Djosa. Ntjamrosie wilt mensen raken met haar muziek, en omdat te doen hoef je niet altijd de teksten te begrijpen om meegenomen te worden door de muziek.’Een hitje zou fijn zijn, maar dit is niet het voornaamste doel’ zegt Ntjamrosie. Neem bijvoorbeeld de ode aan haar grootmoeder ‘Bia Yon’ wordt gezongen in traditioneel Bulu. De passie en emotie die in dat nummer zit breekt door elke taal barrière heen. De muziek op ‘Atouba’ komt live het best tot haar recht. Met haar liveband heeft Ntjamrosie al menig podia en festival onveilig gemaakt; IJazz, Seven Bridges, Black Soil Film Festival, REMF, North Sea Jazz Around Town, Pure Jazz Festival, maar ook twee keer naprogramma van Erykah Badu en die van Bilal.

Jon Paul Hoppe
Jon Paul Hoppe is originally from Brighton. Moved over to the Netherlands back in 2002 with Nike but I knew my passion laid with painting and found inspiration with the music I was and still am listening to which you can identify with the pieces I have completed. One of my greatest achievements was having the Queen of Neo Soul her self Erykah Badu sign my portrait of her which in turn has given me a burning desire to continue and open up the doors to many other artists.

L4
L4 (Looking 4ward) is a relatively new Hip Hop formation from The Hague (NL) consisting of three rappers, namely; DNA, Stamina and Mic-Nif. The three MCs have worked together for years and only recently formed a solid group. DNA and Stamina know each other from The Hague’s recognized band R.O.O.O.M., whereas Mic-Nif came from The Hague’s Hip Hop collective called NuClear Family. L4 is supported by a breathtaking live band consisting of masterful musicians like Dean Curtiss, an amazing bass guitarist who has a handful of experience in the music scene and has played in numerous bands. Moreover, Mark is the saxophone player that adds the extra colours and jazzy touch to their sound. However, what really makes the band complete is Alex Bernath, a German walking metronome. It is worth mentioning that L4 is a multi-cultural formation (Albania, Angola, Aruba, Germany, Suriname and the Netherlands).

Typhoon
12 JULI Sparkplug
Typhoon vertegenwoordigt een, in Nederland, zeldzaam type rapper: geëngageerd, integer en betrokken. Het is daarom niet verrassend dat de Surinaamse Nederlander, die opgroeide in een klein dorp in de buurt van Zwolle, met name gecharmeerd is van mc’s die iets te melden hebben. “Eigenlijk vind ik alle rappers die op een creatieve manier blijk geven van positive thinking een inspiratiebron.” Typhoon is inhoudelijk sterk maar daarnaast ook nog ‘een charismatische publieksbespeler’, aldus de enthousiaste jury van de Grote Prijs in 2004. Ty speelt de, tot de nok toe gevulde, grote zaal van poptempel Paradiso plat en gaat er met een eerste plaats vandoor. Daarna passeren zijn eerste videoclips (Vluchtgedrag en Familiair) met grote regelmaat de revu en neemt hij deel aan de bejubelde Buiten Westen toer. Tijd dus voor een solo-album.
In juni 2007 ziet Ty’s eerste plaat eindelijk het levenslicht. “Alles wordt terug gebracht naar één enkel iets, één basis. Heel persoonlijk, maar tegelijkertijd geldt het als een universele waarde. In tekstueel opzicht is het thema min of meer dat ik rap vanuit de, meestal, verborgen tweede laag. Veel mensen reageren op bepaalde situaties zoals sociaal wenselijk is, ik ook. Daarom vind ik het juist belangrijk om die verwachting naast me neer te leggen en te schrijven over datgene wat ik op momenten echt ervaar. Hiphop is de basis, maar tegelijkertijd wil ik mezelf niet in een hokje plaatsen en daardoor beperken. Ik heb het talent gekregen om te rappen, maar ben een muzikant.”

Urban Roots
Urban Roots is een spraakmakend collectief waar het beste van twee werelden HipHop en Jazz versmelten tot 1 brok improvisatie. Speciaal voor Sparkplug is er een supersessie voorbereidt met toppers uit de Haagse HipHop en Jazz wereld. De band staat onderleiding van Jazz trompetist Michael Varekamp.

Kern Koppen

Kern Koppen is een gloednieuwe Haagse rapformatie, bestaande uit een drietal geroutineerde hiphop fanaten, de MC’s Ahab en Ki en de producer Tommy 2 Times. De groep is vooral eigentijds, eigenwijs en eigenzinnig. Dit weerklinkt in de muziek en vertaalt zich terug in de tekstualiteit. Kern Koppen laat zich niet makkelijk met andere bands vergelijken. Kenmerkend aan de muziek is de verfrissende combinatie tussen live instrumenten, platensamples en digitale effecten. Tijdens optredens worden de geprogrammeerde producties aangedikt met een bassist en een drummer. De groep rapt Nederlandstalig. De teksten zijn vaak erg persoonlijk en eerlijk vanuit introspectie geschreven. Dit zonder te vervallen in clichés, die typerend zijn voor de huidige rapscene. De koppen van de kern zijn tevens de oprichters van het hiphop platform NuClear Family. Met dit bedrijf zijn ze al ruim 6 jaar actief op het gebied van optredens, workshops, muziek producties, toneel en grafische vormgeving.

Orange Grove
Orange Grove consists of five young healthy men all originating from the Caribbean.
“We’re probably not that much different from you in many ways; we like having fun…we like it when people around us are having fun too…sometimes we have our bad days and sometimes we get into trouble….sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes we learn from them….some of us believe in this and some of us believe in that….but one of the few things we do have in common is that we all believe in ourselves…and whenever we get together..whether it’s to write a song or to practice or to get on stage or whatever ..we always make sure we have a good time!!”

Femmy
Femmy (1984) was born in Zoetermeer. She started singing at an early age. She went to church until she was 12 years old and sang religious songs at elementary school. She found out her true passion for singing when she was 15 years old and performed in musical plays at her high school. Femmy is known for playing and writing with her Dutch hiphop/soul/funk band “New Groove Habits”. With this group she performed at several big venues in the Netherlands, such as the Paradiso, Melkweg, Nighttown, Lions Jazz, Paap and across borders in Ireland. In 2006 the band members of New Groove Habits parted ways and each member of the band started working on their individual projects. Femmy decided it was time to move on and persue her one and only dream: writing lyrics and performing as solo artist Femmy. She started foccusing on her writing skills and wrote and recorded some of her own songs together with guitarist Jeroen Rosbeek (New Groove Habits), who´s not only a big inspiration but also her great love. In 2007, Femmy wrote and recorded together with Jeroen Rosbeek a song called ‘Kleur’ for the Dutch Salvition Army. Now these days she performes with her own band. Femmy uses music to express her emotions and share her insecurities, happiness en miseries with the world.

Mic-Nif
With the release of the album Distortion of the Truth, Mic-Nif introduces himself to the world as a hiphop artist and MC to be reckoned with. As a founding member of the hip hop group Luminous Twinz, he won MTV’s Young Creative Minds Award in 2002. The following year Mic-Nif was voted the winner of the Main Freestyle Battle Event of The Hague. In 2004 Mic-Nif became a member of the renowned hip hop collective NuClear Family, performing both as a headliner and as a supporting act for various hip hop artists such as Guru (Gangstarr), Insight, Wu Tang Killa Bees and many others. And now, with his impressive debut album, Mic-Nif steps out as a solo-artist. Mic-Nif has performed on numerous core stages and festivals in the Netherlands (Melkweg, 013, Night Town, Paard van Troje, The Hague Hip Hop Festival and Parkpop a.o.) On stage Mic-Nif is accompanied by his live band featuring lush backing vocals, guitar, keys, violin, bass and drums.

Faya
Faya (de alias van Marloes Anijs) is een zangeres die zich vooral bezighoudt met de muziekstijlen soul en jazz. Al op vroege leeftijd kwam ze in aanraking met muziek, zo kan ze ook piano spelen, en haar interesse voor muziek is toen nooit voorbij gegaan. Faya laat zich inspireren door artiesten zoals: Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones en Stevie Wonder. Zowel lead als backings heeft Faya gezongen en op dit moment is ze klaar om zich op haar solocarrière te richten.
